Review of A Bigger Splash (2015) by Mitchell M — 01 Apr 2017
Hyperactive and uber-outgoing, if not manic, Harry and his brooding Penelope visit glam rock star Marianne and her boyfriend. They arrived with a plan to preoccupy Paul and distract him away from Marianne, so Harry could reunite with her (his former long term lover) and relive their glory days. Glory days of drug binges and orgies held at parties, studios, and rock concerts. Sounded good to me until I realize it would be with the androgynous, bony, pasty, overly animated David-Bowie look alike Marianne. To effect his strategy he was accompanied by Penelope, who served as sexual bait under the guise as his previously estranged 'daughter' that nobody, not even Marianne, had heard about. She was a prostitute (my opinion) hired for the task. Penelope was a dispassionate, disinterest, aloof, disengaged brat who didn't bother to participate much in conversations but obviously (too obviously) focused only on engaging Paul from the beginning. Well what do you expect? Paul was being stalked by an experienced Prostitute on a mission. At karaoke daddy is pretty hands-on with his 'daughter', which was notice by town's people in the audience. This provoked later line of questioning from Marianne, concluding with Harry shouting at her, "I am not fucking my daughter!!" Yeah, sure. Part-1 of the scheme worked according to plan as Paul and Penelope managed to boinked at a secluded shoreline during a hike. Unfortunately, part-2 of the scheme went awry. First, Harry was sexually rebuffed by Marianne, which bruised his ego and prompted him to plan leaving first thing in the morning. But before they leave he ends up being killed during a struggle with Paul in the pool during the middle of the night. Remember the daughter? Well, interestingly, Penelope didn't move a muscle or cry when she first saw the stiff and lifeless body of her 'father' at the bottom of the swimming pool the following morning. She didn't cry at the police station when she was there to be interviewed and the gravity of what had happened had time to sink in. She mustered a scolding to the police (speaking Italian) out of irritation, but not from grief. At this point we learn she is underage. Underage?! She's a Child Prostitute! It figures. Harry was such a horn dog. She didn't walk over to the casket containing her 'father's' body when it was being loaded into the aircraft in plain sight just as she was boarding via stairs from the tarmac. Only after she boarded and sat down did she cry. Probably because she knew she wouldn't get paid the balance of the money owed her - he stiffed her. He hired a CHILD PROSTITUTE!
Moral to the story: for God's sake pay prostitutes in advance.
