Review of A Bridge Too Far (1977) by Chris W — 13 Dec 2007
The best WW2 movie ever made, bar none. Tells the story of the largest airborne operation ever mounted - Operation Market Garden. Devised by Field Marshall Montgomery, to capture strategic bridges and bring the war to a quick end.
A mixture of bad luck, bad weather and faulty intelligence mean it doesn't go exactly as planned. This movie boasts a cast list enough to make any director drool: Sean Connery, Michael Caine, James Caan, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Denholm Elliott, Edward Fox, Elliott Gould, Dirk Bogarde, Hardy Kruger and Miximilian Schell.
