Review of A League of Their Own (1992) by Christopher S — 06 Oct 2013
Absolutely adore this movie! The true story element about being a tale about women's progression without being too much a feminist film was awesome! I love baseball and found this film extremely enjoyable.
It gave a look into history with the first women's baseball league without getting too factual and boring. It was a look not just at the sport itself but into the lives of these women who lead the way for women in athletics.
We were able to see things they endured playing in the league as well as their personal struggles and triumphs. We essentially watched their dreams come true in an amazing plot. Geena Davis did a wonderful job bringing Dottie to life.
Tom Hanks though not loveable at times brought humour to the film as well as presented some moments where the audience could be touched by the way he truly cared for these women. Rosie O'Donnel did a phenomenal job balancing her famous humour and bringing serious tones when needed creating a well-rounded, fun character.
Also, Madonna and Rosie playing off each other was a wonderful aspect of the film and Madonna's made her character likeable despite her negative points and did a wonderful job. Lori Petty played her part perfectly and Jon Lovitz was absolutely hilarious.
All around a wonderful movie, one of my favourites.
