Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Dawdlingpoet — 25 Nov 2021
This is a somewhat tense film at times, although its not full of constant action. Its very much dialogue heavy and most of the scenes focus on the somewhat underhanded conversations made by few people who, it'd seem, run the criminal business in the area and time the film is set in.
It has quite a looming sense to it and it is in part about both corruption and the supposed American dream - hardly new ground broke, I'll agree with that. Its not exactly the most compelling crime drama film I've seen but its certainly not bad either - I'd say this is primarily a character driven drama and while its maybe a little slow for some, its still worth a watch if it sounds of interest to you.
