Review of A Most Wanted Man (2014) by Logan M — 26 Jun 2015
Only occasionally do I get to the end of a movie thinking it is impeccable. The directing was superb, as was the cinematography, flow of perfect editing, and performances at every level that were perfect.
There is nothing I would change about this film. It evoked thoughts of the stories I heard after 911 about the inter-agency struggles over importance that blocked intelligence that could have given us a chance to prevent the devastation.
But this film is so subtle in its presentation that I am forced to think that my last statement was too heavy-handed. I have never seen Philip Seymour Hoffman do anything better, and in my estimation he topped his past performances.
As I said, impeccable, the star, the cast, the pictures, and, if I hadn't been so gripped by the story and enchanted by its subtlety, I would probably say the music, too. But in truth, because this film is so much about our world today, I was never aware of the music as something apart from the action of the film, which was intellectually moving because it was so real.
I believe Hoffman deserves an Oscar for this one.
