Review of A Most Wanted Man (2014) by Ben H — 27 Sep 2014
This is a complex portrayal of the intelligence agencies. I found myself wondering who is the bad guy here? Certainly not the Rachel Mcadams character or the man from Chechnya who is thought to possibly have links to sponsors of terror in the Middle-East.
It is therefore a condemnation of how U.S. intelligence operates with Robin Wright playing a sassy American operative who goes toe-to-toe with a seemingly moribund Philip Seymour Hoffman as the detective of German intelligence in Hamburg.
The opening is seemingly auspicious, speaking of the 9/11 terror attacks and Mohammed Atta being the center of the terrorist cell based in Hamburg. Hoffman tries to do the right thing, but is overtaken (Spoiler Alert!) by the American counter-terrorism forces.
I highly recommend this movie to intelligence junkies and fans of Le Carre. A+ work here. McAdams is also super attractive in this movie and her German accent is really good!
Grigoriy Dobrygin also has a promising career ahead of him and makes a good Colin Firth look-alike. The chemistry was spot on after he got a good shave!
