Doesn't work as well as the first one because the family unit is now broken and its mum leading so there's a lack of purpose to the whole thing. Also the sons are the useless bumbling fools of hollywood male characters so its the mum and daughter leads.
Which is why is doesnt work now. Cause the reason people dont care what women and mothers do in a horror film, is their ultimate purpose is the be protected and carry on the species, them being in danger is uncomfortable and unsettling.
The reason its thrilling for MEN TO DO THAT, is because its for the greater purpose of allowing women to be safe and procreate to carry on the family. Hollywood has deep deep ideological issues with this fundamental reality of nature and they are getting worse and their storyline don't work, cause their not true stories and myths based on human nature, they are demented irrational fantazies that you cant escape to.
