Review of A Walk in the Clouds (1995) by John R — 12 Nov 2015
151112: I just wanted to get rid of this film and, in fact, I think I did at least once. Not sure where it originally came from, or why it was in my collection, but it's been there for a long time.
Not sure why I had it in the first place. With that, I was searching for a western to follow up on Joe Kidd and somehow, wound up watching it. How strange is that? Loved Victoria's father Alberto (Giancario Giannini) from the moment he shot his way onto the screen.
I have never, however, understood Keanu Reeves appeal. He just irks me for some reason. He's almost robotic, or stuck in a shell from which he cannot get out. Or stuck in a shell which he has not successfully gotten out of yet? I'm wondering if there is a film he's done, in which I've actually enjoyed his acting? As for the rest of the film, the flashback and the orchard fire scenes were weak but the cast, outside of Reeves, offset those grievances.
No real regrets and will likely keep the film around, at least for a little while longer.
