Review of A Wrinkle in Time (2018) by Keith B — 12 Oct 2018
I'm awe as I read some of the reviews for A Wrinkle In Time, which I just watched again as a treat. I find it an evolved type of inspirational movie that speaks to the heart of issues faced by distinct subjects.
This movie is about a tenacious, fiery, young, black girl who through nature and nurture is strong yet not allowed to show any signs of it. It;'s about self acceptance and love. Then, when I see the scenes where she's instructed to embrace herself to "tesser well" and the reminder that "aberrations are far more interesting", i'm not surprised by the widespread reaction.
It's a reaction of privilege. Imagine judging the movie on the CGI, as if that ever mattered in a movie taking on such an audacious topic. Even the missing paternal figure storyline fits well with the key audience and it's even refreshing.
I come out of watching it with so many positive mantras and insights and I just hope that the intended audiences are like me and never listen to the mainstream bent reviews take. Just see the movie!! It will clean the lense of self-loathing that comes standard in this universes starter-pack.
