Review of Adventures of Don Juan (1948) by Ian C — 28 Jul 2008
Not one of Flynn's best, and there are certainly better swashbucklers out there, but I still like this one a lot - I always have since I was a kid. In this formulaic swashbuckler, Flynn plays ultimate womanizer Don Juan de Marana, a role he probably should have taken a little sooner in life before alcohol and hard living took its toll on him, but I can't see anyone else in the role.
Spectacular sets, well-played stock characters, and plenty of swordfights throughout the film - and lots of lovely women for Flynn to cavort with. There's better out there, but that doesn't mean this one still isn't good.
