Few people fail to realize that, yes, Spielberg did direct this film, however, Kubrick left behind stacks and stacks of notes and other materials. What this film comes down to in the end, in my estimation, would be 70% Kubrick, and 30% Spielberg.
Horribly maligned, underrated film.
