Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Alex R — 20 May 2017
I went in having been one of the seemingly few people who actually enjoyed Prometheus and the lofty questions it asked. Was thoroughly disappointed that this follow up does not carry on in the same fashion.
There is a start drop off in IQ between the two films. Even worse I felt as though half the movie was left on the cutting room floor with literally TONS of plot points that are never explained at all.
This is all without mentioning the terrible twist ending that you can see coming from a mile away. I only plan to see this movie once more, and that's when and IF a director's cut is released.
All the negative parts aside, there are some things to enjoy in this film. It is gorgeously shot, the Xenomorph looks fantastic and I was rooting for him once he appeared (from a nostalgic point of view).
Finally Michael Fassbender steals the show again this time playing TWO androids, David (Prometheus) and Walter, a newer, less human like, version of the previous model. There are entire scenes with Michael talking to himself as both characters and each and every single one is fantastic.
To wrap up, if you were looking for something to continue on from Prometheus, maybe just looking for some answers from the many questions it posed...This sadly does not, and does provide any.
