Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by K L — 19 May 2017
I want to know what studio exec read this script and watched this theatrical cut and blessed off on them. It's hard to imagine that this came from the same man who gave us Alien, The Martian, Gladiator, and a slew of other great movies.
First and foremost the actors did great. In fact Danny McBride proved he can actually play a serious character with real emotion. Regardless of that this movie is atrocious. It was like Ridley was just giving the studio something so they would get off his back.
There's no suspense, at all. People die and you couldn't care less about it. There's a really good idea in the mess that is the story and it's completely ruined by a predictable twist and glaring plot holes.
As in this is supposed to be the bridge between Prometheus and Alien and it doesn't set up Alien! Ridley should have gone back and watched it again, or maybe there's another atrocious movie in the pipe to fix it all.
I am extremely glad Guardians 2 was still in the 3D theaters because it saved me ten dollars.
