Review of Annihilation (2018) by Landon J — 16 Jan 2019

Here's the plot; It's the old Blair Witch Project routine, only this time it's not 'The Wood' , this time it's 'the shimmer'. Everyone and every living thing within the Shimmer is being assimilated by the alien life form which has created it. You go into it, you don't come out. The movie basically revolves around the process of assimilation encountered by one, all female, team. My chief quibble is that the girls are from reel one outmatched by an incomprehensible, invincible and omnipresent enemy against which they (in true Blair Witch style), fail to take the the most basic precautions. No one actually says "I think we should split up", but you know what I mean.

While diverting in a 10 Little Indians, 'lets see who gets it next', sort of way it wasn't my cup of tea. I like a satisfying conclusion, (or even "a conclusion") where due to some incredible human breakthrough the aliens get blown to atoms and humanity wins yeah!!!!

This is more; "you brought it on yourself by not loving the planet enough and now you have no hope so lets watch it eat you.".
