Review of Annihilation (2018) by Marc R — 06 Apr 2018
Even after some time my mind and emotions are still mushy, so, not entirely sure how to review this...
Annihilation is robust, heady sci-fi. The themes are universal, the visuals are enchanting, the sound is absorbing, the bear is terrifying, the finale is awe-inspiring, and the filmmaking is so assured. Huge props to the casting, cast, and the unique solidarity on display between them. One gripe (among just a few) is that the movie would benefit from even less exposition and certainty but that?s what Garland wanted in the first place so who knows, maybe we?ll get that director?s cut.
I?m devastated that this didn?t get a theater release in most of the world, including here in Australia. If that opportunity somehow ever arises, I?m there.
