Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) by Allan H — 08 Jul 2018
Not a very good movie. Evangeline just mailed in her performance. While her character in the Hobbit was the worst part of that series, at least she acted her best in a bad role, this was a golden opportunity for her to own the Wasp and she blew it, big time.
The woman playing Ghost put in a much better performance than Evangeline. I didn't see the first movie, but Paul Rudd was only OK as a moderately funny comedy relief. His acting was OK, all three were upstaged by Lawrence Fishbourne and his character, Mike Douglas and Micheal Pena.
Michael Pena was far more of a comedy relief than Rudd. Its sad when secondary characters end up being more interesting and better acted than the main characters. Now I will mention the entirely unrealistic way the main FBI agent is portrayed, especially at the end of the movie.
There is just no way that someone in law enforcement would behave that way, much less a high ranking FBI official. It would be much more believable if he had sympathy for Ant Man and deliberately overlooked or acted as bumbler at times, but to be a complete idiot from start to finish does not befit someone of his rank.
I know Lilly is on record as being proud of having her character be the first woman superhero to have top billing, but you would have thought she would have done a much better job acting. They could even use a new Ant Man, Rudd's only just passable in this role.
I recommend waiting for it to hit cable TV or included as part of Amazon Prime, I would not recommend people pay to see this movie. It's '80's level, made for TV movie at best.
