Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) by Tvjerry — 23 Feb 2023
In some ways this film echoes Disney's summer flop Strange World (my review): A family sets out in fanciful environment to save the planet. This is the 3rd installment of the Ant-Man franchise with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer returning.
They end up in the quantum world where they encounter various weird creatures before running into the inevitable uber villain Kang (Jonathan Majors). All of the usual Marvel elements are present in a rather mundane package.
The fight sequences lack any originality or even interesting staging. The production design features some cool creatures and environments, but they feel like references to the aforementioned Disney flick and the Avatar films.
The one thing that usually helps set this series apart is Rudd's offhand comic charms, which are also in short supply this time. You may be getting the idea: This is a bland blend of superhero tropes that offers nothing new or exciting.
Of course, stay thru the credits for multiple Kang encounters. [usr =1.
