Review of Apostle (2018) by Tim G — 24 Oct 2018
I watched this before reading the reviews and am honestly shocked at the rating it has. This movie is totally incongruous, which could probably be solved by some heavy editing as it feels extremely long.
The movie is about Thomas (I think? The characters were forgettable) saving his sister... who barely makes an appearance and inspires no emotional connection with the viewer, to the point that you frequently forget why he is on this island to begin with.
There is almost no logical backstory provided about how his sister ended up on the island or why we should care so deeply about saving her. Actually, Thomas doesn't really seem to care very much about saving her, either.
I expected it to have a 10% rating. I am shocked. I love this horror/thriller/supernatural genre and can confidently say this is one of the worst films I've ever watched.
