Review of Aquaman (2018) by Andrew P — 29 Dec 2018
I'm not going to lie, I was a little tired because I went to the week-early Amazon Prime showing at 7 pm and had a long day that day. So with that in mind, I will go watch this again and will revise my rating.
However, I found this movie to bit a bit incohesive. There were so many great scenes, yet I just felt that they didn't all fit into a singular storyline. I also thought many of the jokes fell flat, but I also believe the abundance of trailers is partly to blame for that.
Many are complaining of CGI overload but I thought this movie was absolutely gorgeous. I loved Amber Heard as Meer and I absolutely enjoy Jason Mamoa as Aquaman. As per DC films, the villain Orm is the weakest part of the film.
I do not believe this is due to Patrick Wilson's acting, however. I blame the writing. While some accuse him of being over-the-top, I believe there really is no other way to portray a villain in a movie about a a race of people that can talk and breathe under water and ride giant sea horses, sharks and crocodiles.
I left entertained, but I also left wanting so much more.
