Review of Ashes and Diamonds (1958) by Bob V — 19 Oct 2010
According to every source I've come across, this is a masterpiece. I'm sure it is, and it looks very pretty at times. But this black and white Polish movie about Communism and the Home Army (I think) was damn hard to sit through.
It took me 7 goes, falling asleep 4 times and I'm an insomniac for chrissakes, to finish all 247 minutes of this and at one point I had been staring a full 3 minutes at the screen before even realizing the DVD had actually frozen. Suffice to say, I watched it and still have no idea what it's about, maybe it deserves another shot later on, or maybe this masterpiece is simply beyond me.
