Review of Asterix and the Vikings (2006) by Willem-Jan O — 04 Dec 2007
Oh dear. Why do they find it necessary to mess with a perfectly good story by modernising it and by adding a cut-and-paste romantic element? In terms of modernisation, isn't part of the charm of the Asterix comics the fact that it's a different world in a different time? That said, the movie is worth watching.
The familiar Asterix elements shine through, although the awesome main characters (Asterix, Obelix, and Getafix) seem to take a back seat to the added (and unnecessary) love story going on. The movie is partly redeemed by some totally breathtaking animation.
In short, if you're an Asterix fan, this is a must-see. If you're not, then maybe not so much.
