Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part II (2012) by David M — 13 Oct 2012
I'm a fan of the book, but the movie is dreadfully bad. There are a few things about it which were actually better than last year's horrendous "Part I," but for the most part it was very, very bad art.
Some of the critics are getting confused about whether they're supposed to be critiquing a film or ideas they disagree with, though. A good reviewer SHOULD trash this movie, because it's lousy.
But when you go over into criticizing the ideas in the book, that's ridiculous, especially since it's clear that some of the reviewers don't understand the book or its ideas. (And, by the way, I'm not an Objectivist, so I don't agree with Rand on all points, either.
But I understand her points, even when I disagree. Some reviewers are trashing things they don't even understand.) The bottom line, though, is that if you love the book AND you're not much of a movie fan (so you don't have high standards for film), you can enjoy the movie on some level.
Anybody else is going to be bored or worse.
