Review of Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) by Slugo — 08 Jan 2023
This movie was the best cinematic experience I’ve had in theaters since Endgame, probably even topping that. It really did make me feel like a kid again, with a story that has both stakes and the visuals to back it up.
My 90 year old grandparents, who never go to see movies, went and saw this and loved it, and this movie is almost 200 minutes long. The world building is also really well done, an underrated ability is to be able to completely flesh out an entire universe, make it feel big, real and lived in, with no written source material to lean back on.
This franchise feels on par with Harry Potter, Marvel, The Lord of the Rings, and it is something that I am truly grateful of, especially with the state of cinema post pandemic. If you liked the first, go see this one, and if you didn’t give this one a try.
