Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Zackery S — 15 Jan 2019
I am a viewer of this film that does not understand why this movie is despised by so many. I think at least a portion of the detractors HAVE to be biased solely from reading about the critics panning of the film before hand.
This movie does a fairly good job of breaking away from the traditional Hollywood formulaic superhero movie (see Marvel). Both batman and superman in this film are very deep characters with deep problems and concerns throughout the film. I think it was brilliant to make the "heroes" of the movie contain flaws and somewhat antagonistic characteristics in certain points. Yes, the film was somewhat dark. But I love that. I'm sick of all the neon funny haha superhero movies, and appreciated the serious nature of this film.
There are many subplots in this film to enjoy. I do think the Martha thing was somewhat of an easy way out for the wrtiers, and that the final actions sequence with Doomsday was rushed. That being said, I think this movie was solid, and I honestly wish DC kept with this tone instead of moving towards Marvel wannabe movies like Aquaman, Suicide Squad, etc.
