Review of Beautiful Boy (2018) by Brian B — 15 Nov 2018
My wife and I have rarely been as moved as we were from watching this movie. That may have to do with the fact our niece is a recovering heroin addict, but the performances by Steve Carell and Timothee Chamalet were so real that the painful reality of drug addiction hit home in a big way.
And to learn that this is based on a true story made it even more so. It's great to see Carell continue to expand his repetoire from his funnyman roles, and as the professional reviewers have said, Chalamet is totally convincing as a young man trying to do the right thing while being so tempted by the fleeting pleasures of hard drugs.
This underrated production should be a must-see for anyone who has faced or is facing a similar impossibly difficult situation.
