Review of Becky (2020) by Davidburke — 20 Aug 2021
This movie is completely garbage, in my opinion. Just because Kevin James is in it does not make it good.
I have a lot to say about this movie, but I'll start with the plot, which has quite a few holes in it. Here are a few:
- The start shows a bunch of criminals trying to escape from a prison van. If they're escaping prison, why would they decide to target a random house like they did?
- Why do they spontaneously decide that children deserve to be spared, despite all the other horrendous acts they commit?
- Why are 4 huge men not able to kill a 13 year old girl when their lives depend on it?
This movie also relies on gore far too much, like a lot of other garbage horror movies. An example, they stole a car by stealing some police clothing and acting like police. Having convinced the driver to get out, Dominick (Kevin James) delivers a super lame line about how if he was to shoot the driver, his wife would hear it, before punching him in the face and beating him to death. Despite the punch coming from the right side, blood miraculously flies left to land on the window in front of the camera.
This movie is full of plot holes, gore, and bad characters. Everybody is at least fairly stereotypical and the main character is extremely dull and annoying (whoa, a teenage girl that can kill people!!1!1"). In the same vein, some pretty terrible lines are also delivered, (aside from the one I mentioned earlier) like when Dominick (Kevin James again) calls a Glock a "lie detector".
If you're only watching this movie because it has some pretty big names in it, you're in for a bad time. From what I've heard, the directors of this movie also made another garbage shockfest film where young children become monsters. TL;DR - If you're only looking at this movie because someone you like is in it, turn back. I only wish I had.
