Review of Being John Malkovich (1999) by Nickthecritick — 04 Oct 2022
Spike Jonze puts on a really crazy and original script written by that genius Charlie Kaufman. The plot is delirious: a failed puppeteer who lives with his wife and countless animals in the house, is fired and gets a job in an office in a skyscraper where he falls in love with a woman named Maxine.
The protagonist discovers a secret passage in the wall of the building that leads into John Malkovich's head. Once inside this tunnel you stay in the actor's mind for 15 minutes and then you are dumped in a ditch.
Spike Jonze stages a very difficult subject with great skill, making a very pleasant and very funny film. An inspired and desperate dramatic comedy, a real cult that you shouldn't miss.
