Review of Beyond the Gates (2016) by Liam M — 14 Apr 2017
It's stylish and retro for sure; but for all it's set dressing, 'Beyond the Gate' forget to have any fun with it's admittedly neat concept. Think 'House By the Cemetery' meets 'Jumanji' - There are some genuinely interesting moments, solid performances and the gore effects especially stand out as a highlight - but it just doesn't push its concept far enough.
It's happy enough to reference the greats of the Italian horror genre but fails to add any of its own ideas into the mix. Ultimately, this V/H/S/ adventure is more, throwaway than throwback.
