Review of Bilal: A New Breed of Hero (2016) by Pitt L — 07 Nov 2016
It was my 3rd time in Dubai, very impressed with how they turned a piece of dead desert into miraculous landmarks.. I heard that they are doing their first international animated feature, so I felt that I owe it to this beautiful culture to watch the Bilal movie, I am an American movie addict, so I assume that I am their prime target as they used Hollywood stars in the movie (I was told that Will Smith has something to do with it, he better not!).
As a first attempt I am impressed that they spend that much, first few minutes hooked me but not for long. The story is confusing, actually I felt that the characters/actors are confused themselves. No director should be proud to put his name on this (sorry), quality of animation was ok but not wow, movements were fake, expressions were not good (reminded me of the Barbie movies my daughters stop watching after they pass 7).
A couple of actors did a good job though. I had to leave after the many wars (didn't understand why are they fighting at the first place, why are they so angry and want to kill their ex-neighbors? Who are the white ghosts in the war?) so I simply left to enjoy the rest of my last night in Dubai, I am giving one star to the movie, and two stars for the love of Dubai.
