Review of Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) by Tremault — 01 Oct 2020
I feel it is most appropriate to judge this film on what it is. it's a sequel to Bill and Ted. These films are meant to be fun and trashy and not much more than that. For what I came to expect from Bill and Ted, this movie is a perfect third movie.
it delivered everything I expected and more. it made me laugh my socks off, and it wrapped up in a way that I never thought was actually possible. how could this movie present a song that unites the world? how would that even be possible.
hey can't make music that good. and yet the movie delivers on that front to such a degree that I was dumbstruck. I have never cried so much from joy that the back of my neck hurt. This movie completes my childhood.
On it's own.. it is of course a very trashy movie. if it wasn't, it would not be Bill and Ted. in this day and age whre every film follows a formula and has to be the best lighting, the best comedy, the best sound etc.
films are stagnant and I really miss what films used to be. this film is unshackled by all of that and it benefits because of that. forget your billion dollar CGI. forget your perfect lighting. forget your epic score.
what we have here is a celebration of good music, friendship, family and honest good fun. I love this film so much I have watched it twice in the cinema so far. I intend to watch it many more times.
it is truly a gift.
