Review of Black Is King (2020) by Dylanfarr4 — 01 Aug 2020
While not as resonating as Lemonade, Black is King proves to be an absolutely stupendous showcase of African culture, and the cultures that have branched into what we see today. The Gift companion album was not a typical Queen Bey album, simply because it wasn’t great.
But Queen Bey took it and made it something great with this visual album. I think the most intriguing aspect of this is her portrayal of Osun, the Yoruban goddess. She seems to have adapted that persona in herself, and that’s inspiring in a lot of ways.
With Black is King, you can definitely mute the mediocre music, but your jaw will be on the floor regardless.
