Review of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) by All_Buttru4 — 12 Nov 2022
The sequel to the 2018 orgin story of the eponymous endowed King returns less exciting. It's entire press cycle has felt demure from the scattered soundtrack or the phoned in Rihanna lead singles giving the feeling that this film suffered greatly in quality following Chadwick Boseman's unforseen death.
I will say I was part of the crowd that favored a recast and unfortunately this movie proved us right. The story though not bad(per sé) feels loose and circular. I do think they approached the eventual arms race that would begin once American became privy to Wakanda's advantage and I think it would make even more compelling stories ahead.
I did find Shuri's character a bit lackluster this time around but I loved Okoye . Nakia's revelation was shocking and rightfully set up the reintroduction of T'challa. The decision to focus on grief, loss and turmoil was a risky but otherwise fine choice.
I wasn't really captivated throughout but I was never really bored. I do think it was actually paced pretty well.
