Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Guillermo M — 24 Jan 2019
WOW. Apart from Inside Man, I sort of forgot about Spike Lee, although I was there watching from his first efforts (She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, etc.) And I'd say this is tour de force, on point, top of list.
I missed it in the theater and although I don't regularly review films I rent, since this the last of the Best Picture nominees I needed to see, I felt compelled. This story about a rookie black cop in Colorado Springs who manages to infiltrate the local Klan with his parter (Adam Driver) is rich, and Lee directs it in his typical fashion.
...you know he's going to make a point, and boy he does. This film hits hard (excellent performances by all) but even harder when it goes from fiction to reality. We know we live in a frightening political environment with Trump at the helm---what are we doing about it? See this movie to start.
Start to Finish. Double feature this and "Vice" if you really want to get some motivation.
