If you don't get hung up about how it affects the ORIGINAL then you will enjoy what is a visually stunning rebirth that celebrates what made the ORIGINAL so loved while also going down a road where it did it's own thing.
I rather not talk what I think about the story as I think it's worth the enjoyment of just sitting back, sinking in the visuals and the pleasure of finding out for your self.
