Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Caleb A — 03 Feb 2018
Mesmerizing from start to finish. This movie can survive as a sequel or on its own but watching the first Blade Runner certainly sets you up for the expectation of what's to come. Gosling really took this role with limited voice lines and nearly silently gave a remarkable performance.
Harrison Ford's apparent love of the BR story really show and his performance feels "all in" and makes his Star Wars cameo pale in comparison. The BR2049 story has multiple layers, mystery and intrigue which keeps you interested from start to finish.
An action movie this is not. But it does have action sequences that are taught with tension and violence. Blade Runner 2049 is a slow, beautiful, methodical and thought provoking movie. This movie is a triumph for those looking for glimpse at what humanity is as technology integrates with us.
If you enjoyed the first Blade Runner I can't see how you will be disappointed with this film. This is a long epic movie so prepare yourself for an almost 3hr journey into a dark future with twists and turns and enjoy.
If you are looking for a fast paced J.J. Abrams style action Sci fi movie (which can quite good) this is not for you.
