Review of Bleed for This (2016) by Late R — 11 Aug 2018
It may be formulaic and predictable, but the story remains an inspiring one (that I wasn't aware of before watching this) and shows the power of perseverance and self-belief, even in the face of overwhelming doubt from everyone around you.
I'm not sure Pazienza comes across as a hero or even particularly likeable, but he sure as hell seems like a tough SOB who wasn't willing to give up. The inclusion of many scenes with family and friends, showing the support behind the boxer, was nice to see and makes the character feel more human and less like a caricature, softening him a little.
The entire cast put in strong performances, with Teller and Eckhart front and centre, nailing their roles. It doesn't really do much that we haven't seen before and fight scenes aren't anything special, but it's a solid genre film and is entertaining enough.
