Review of Blonde (2022) by Metabones — 04 Apr 2023

Blonde is the definition of a "mixed-bag". On the one hand, it's got an unbelievable performance by Ana De Armas, immaculate cinematography, strong visual aesthetics, and a wonderful score. On the other hand, the film's theme's are tone-deaf, the dialogue shotty and cliched, and the direction overall messy and incoherent.

Upon seeing the strong hate for the film, I was determined to give it its fair chance. After the film finished, I realized why the reaction has been so strong. For those that felt the film was offensive and vile, I can certainly see that point of view.

For those that found the film artistically brave, bold, and creative, I can certainly see that point of view as well. Both reactions truly represent the best and worst parts about the film which is why I say it's the epitome of a "mixed-bag".
