Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Chris S — 27 Jul 2014
Blue is the Warmest color is beautiful, erotic, touching, heartbreaking; everything that life is. It can best be described as a coming of age story, but the goes deeper and farther than such a moniker would suggest.
It's realism is astonishing, drawing you in almost with a sense of voyeurism, as if overhearing a particularly interesting conversation at the table next to you. The realism is drawn not only from the astonishing performances of it's two leads but also from the way scenes seem to play out in almost real-time.
Realism also equates to honestly, as Blue does not pull any punches in any regard.
