Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Frankrog29 — 14 Jan 2019
Bohemian Rhapsody is a bit formulaic and feels somewhat like a corny soap opera at times. However, I think the movie does a great job of telling Freddie Mercury's and the band's story. While watching the movie, I found myself cheering for the band and hoping for their success, even though I'm not really a Queen fan.
I think Bryan Singer was trying to make a film that was fun to watch, and he succeeded admirably. His direction is quite good. Perhaps people were looking for a darker, more serious examination of Freddie Mercury's and the band's story.
Also, perhaps critics derided the movie because of Bryan Singer's questionable conduct in his private life. Regardless, if you are looking for a fun rock biopic, I highly recommend Bohemian Rhapsody.
