Review of Bridesmaids (2011) by Steven (Mogi) . — 20 Jan 2014
I learned something today. Cast Away is like Forrest Gump but in an island. Yeah...
Women receive the Apatow treatment and, unlike a loose-chain but play-it-safe PG-13 female vehicle like Mean Girls (2004), the film is more aggressive and actually targets the Apatow style fans instead of only focusing on one single genre (women). The quick editing, the quickly delivered dialogue (which is an Apatow trademark), the scoreless humor and the R-rated gags seemed like a dangerous idea for adapting these elements to a rather risky project. If his famous name hadn't appeared behind the film since the beginning, everybody would have questioned the possibly worthless quality of a movie that seemed to employ only recycled material, especially considering its marketing. The outcome was different, however.
Well, it does only employ recycled material, and that was a good thing. Here we have adults trying to revive their "slutty high school days". The "female Hangover" reference is rather forced, but I guess that is a way in which this flick can be identified. It is better than the average PG-13 and more valuable than any American Pie bullshit.
59/100.
