Review of Bright (2017) by Dan D — 01 Jan 2019
I can't believe I took so long to see this movie. It hit all of my geek buttons. For starters this is the best Will Smith cop movie in a LONG TIME. He's no longer the young rebel cop figjting the system. Now he's the old veteran trying to make it to retirement who's days of hopefull youth are long past. Now he's teamed up with the type of character he used to play.
And then we have the setting. Yeah it's different. Some people will absolutly hate it. They are the ones who don't "get" the audience. Those who do like the setting are anxious for a sequel. I coumt myself in the latter group. I want to see this world developed. I want to see into it's deeper hidden secrets. If Netflix would make a companion series I'd binge it. If Netflix published a series of books in this world I'd read them all. If they turned this into a table top rpg I'd DM a group.
All that being said the social commentary was as blunt as a sledgehammer. It was good but some people won't like it.
