Review of Broken Blossoms (1919) by Kendyl C — 29 Dec 2010
In a way, it's a twisted Romeo and Juliet in its own way. One of the most popular silent films viewed today, I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't looked into a remake of this beautiful, yet tragic tale of romance.
The closet scene is still seen as one of the most intense sequences in a silent film. Unfortunately, only the crew got to hear the intensity as well. Supposedly, after hearing Gish perform the scene, the director remained silent for seconds.
