Review of Bumblebee (2018) by Hector V — 21 Dec 2018
The coming-of-age narrative is unfocused and unremarkable, never really setting its sights on what Charlie needs to learn or grow through during her journey. The bits involving other teenagers don't hit their mark, and despite feeling needed to balance out the science-fiction robots and lasers in the background, they really are just extraneous in the context of the rest of the plot.
It's nothing amazing or especially original, but 'Bumblebee' at least has its moments thanks to Hailee Steinfeld's winning performance alongside her robot pal.
