Review of Calibre (2018) by Grant S — 16 Sep 2018
Calibre is one part beautiful cinematography, one part bleak atmosphere, one part murder, and one part paranoia.
The tension throughout this film is portrayed very well. Excellent performances all around, with Jack Lowden and Martin McCann being the obvious standouts.
The plot is pretty straightforward. A few conveniently stupid decisions help to prolong the plot and guide it to the intentional conclusion. For example, if Vaughn (Jack Lowden) and Marcus (Martin McCann) hadn't run at the grave site they would have got away with everything. If they had simply returned to their homes after the initial murders, no one would have even suspected them. And if they did, the locals surely wouldn't know where to find them.
That aside, it's a pretty decent film. Especially for a Netflix original.
