Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Jim M — 23 Dec 2017
This movie is fine, but it's not a great love story. The two guys are too troubled, and spend more time seemingly annoyed with each other, then they're suddenly in love. Huh? It's a pretty film, and I loved that everyone switched effortlessly from English to French to Italian.
Hammer was a self-absorbed prick, and Chalamet danced around what he wanted. OK, he was only supposed to be 17, but he was the aggressor in their affair. And he always knew Hammer was only there for the summer, so what did he expect? All in all THE SHAPE OF WATER is a much better love story.
Why can't the make a good gay love story?
