Review of Captain Fantastic (2016) by Dan D — 30 Jul 2016
The plot of this movie is as follows. There is a family living in the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest. Mom is bipolar and hospitalized and commits suicide. Dad is raising and homeschooling the six children.
He is a bit of a Renaissance man and is raising his children accordingly. They grow their own food, hunt and kill their own game, at Cetera to say they are survivalists is an understatement. So this is where I got sideways with this movie.
Essentially they are being raised with two conflicting mentalities. One is the survivalist who is completely self-reliant and the other a bit of a cute Maoist take on life where everything is provided.
It's a bit ridiculous and so I can't take this movie seriously.
