I do not know the French original but it is worth noting that it avoids the resource of moving the viewer with sentimental clichés or morals already seen ad nauseam. The performances and respectful tone to the deaf community are also appreciated.
But, did it deserve the award for Best Picture? That is up to everyone's opinion.
