What seems like a sure fire scare fest is let down by amateur execution. It's a mix of bad performances and somewhat embarrassing cgi. It does however manage a few effective shocks. In this case it's quite frustrating because all of the pieces are there, they just never connect in a satisfying, unexpected way.
What's left is an overly mediocre blend of Lights out, Mama and the Babadook that never really finds an identity of its own.
