A movie with enough unique nuances to ascend slightly above its schlocky romantic comedy elements. While possessing some disappointingly by-the-numbers moments and unfitting ridiculousness, some complex exploration on the nature of familial acceptance elevate this movie to something more than a typical romantic comedy.

Crazy Rich Asians will likely fail to live up to the phenomenal hype around it, but it is far from a "bad" movie. It is a perfectly acceptable piece of media that presents a unique perspective in the Western world, even as it sometimes falls on its face while attempting to defy the tropes it is speaking out against.
