Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016) by Jason V — 04 Sep 2016
Let me clarify one thing. I have no problem watching a movie about Ancient China's martial art world while the characters speak in English. After all, Ben-Hur, The Prince of Egypt, The Danish girl aren't supposed to be English speaking too, yet they all do. So why can't the Chinese speak English too? Movie is a made believe world.
This sequel (arrives 16 years later than its predecessor) should not have been made. Although the choreography of the fights is as beautiful as only Master Yuen knows how to do, (the scene on the ice lake is one of them), this is just like one of the many kung fu movies in Asia. There are too many characters with no personality. If Ang Lee's version is an enchanting scholar, this one is a common butcher.
